How To Make Time For Yourself As A Busy Mum

We all know the importance of self care, and taking time out just for you. But with the ridiculously busy world we live in, work, children or other commitments, finding that time can be next to impossible

We need to learn to be smart about our time, use each day wisely, and take a breather now and then when you feel you are pushing yourself too hard. I like to plan my days out, and my evenings so I don't waste any time and can just get on with my day straight away. (Obviously I am flexible because of my little ones, but it's a rough plan!) You don't have to be as crazy as me, but having a rough idea of your day/week is a great way to ensure you make the best of every day!

So here are my tips for finding time for yourself!

Adjust Your Sleep Schedule
If you stay up too late (I'm not one to judge, trust me!) you need to try and adjust your bedtime. If you are more of a night owl, you could try making your bedtime an hour earlier. Get ready for bed, take your make up off, make a hot drink and hop in to bed then. Take that extra hour you've got to make some time for you, read a book, write in your journals, do whatever it is you like to do to wind down. Then by the time your normal bedtime rolls around you'll be all relaxed and ready for sleep. Plus you will have had quality time for yourself too!

If you are good at going to bed at an appropriate time, I applaud you! But if, because you go to bed earlier, you feel you haven't done anything for yourself - why not try waking up a bit earlier? Although I haven't tried it myself, I am not a morning person - you could give the 5am club a go perhaps. Or even just waking up a bit earlier than your little ones can make all the difference. Even half an hour earlier means you could grab a hot drink and watch morning tv in peace, plan your day, or even just sit in silence and enjoy your breakfast!

Save An Evening Or Two For You
If you tend to just crash on the sofa after the little ones have finally fallen asleep, that's ok! But why not try to save a couple of evenings a week to do something you enjoy. Whether it's a craft hobby, reading or even just enjoying the bubbliest bath in the world. Take those set evenings each week and do something just for you!

Exercise!
Until recently, I didn't really believe in the power of going out and getting some exercise! I started running a few times a week for the past few months and it's made a huge difference to my overall wellbeing. It's made me happier, it's made me more confident - I totally get it now! If you have really little ones who luckily still nap - why not take half an hour of that to try a workout on Youtube or an exercise DVD? Or if your children are older and at school, just grab half an hour during the day to get outside and go for a run, or even just a walk!

For the first few days, if you're not used to exercising much like I was, it'll literally feel like you are punishing yourself, as opposed to treating yourself to some time off! But once you get into the swing of it, you'll learn to love it. I tend to go for a quick run on the days that my husband is home and can look after our youngest. Just popping my headphones in, finding that perfect feel-good playlist and going for it, it's an amazing feeling!

Book Something Now
If you are the type of person who's like 'Yes, I do this - I'll write it down on the calendar and make sure I do this for myself, then somehow it just doesn't happen', then this one is for you. Book something for you, today. Whether it's plans with a friend, a hair appointment or even a live event - book it today and you can't just not do it!

Send Your Little Ones To Bed Earlier
If you are still struggling with making any time for you, do not feel guilty about sending your little ones to bed a little earlier once in a while. If they tend to settle themselves, that makes this easier for you as you can just move their normal bedtime routine slightly earlier, even just half an hour earlier. If I've had a particularly difficult day, I will send my three to bed that little bit earlier, and they are none the wiser. Whether it's one day a week (why not try Sundays?) or even just once a month, that's a lovely little slither of time you can have just for you - you deserve it.

How To Make Time For Yourself As A Busy Mum

Get Outside Help
There is absolutely no harm in asking for help now and then. Everyone needs help and no one can be in 'mum mode' every single second of your life, you need time to switch off! Whether it's booking a babysitter so you can go out one evening, asking friends to watch your kids for an hour or so, and doing the same in return for them on another day or even hire a cleaner if that's where you are struggling. We. All. Struggle. So ask for help!

Accept That Not Everything Is Urgent
Looking after your little ones is top priority, looking after you is top priority - that's it. Washing up building up in the sink? That is not urgent. If you're desperate to sit down and just switch off for a while, the hoovering can wait! If you're trying to decide between having a much needed relaxing day at home in your comfies or taking your little one to soft play - the answer is already there. You need it and you deserve it.

However you can manage to make time for you, never ever, ever, feel guilty for needing that time for yourself. You are so incredibly busy and it's so important to look after yourself and make yourself a priority!

Why Chocolate Shouldn't Be Your Guilty Pleasure

Be honest, do you feel guilty when indulging on a delicious chocolatey treat? Perhaps you were being strict with yourself and you had a "slip up" or maybe you accidentally scoffed far more than you had intended to?

I'm here to say there is absolutely no reason you should feel guilty about treating yourself to this 'forbidden food'. According to studies, 1 in 5 people in the UK feel guilty after eating chocolate and guess what, most of those people are women. This difficult relationship with chocolate can be harmful in many ways, both mental and physical.

We all deserve to eat things we enjoy, and we all deserve to treat ourselves without instantly feeling regret or shame over our decisions. Maintaining a balanced diet is just that, balanced. Everything in moderation, not too strict and definitely not cutting out your favourite foods!

Why Chocolate Shouldn't Be Your Guilty Pleasure

What you need to know:
* Chocolate can improve your mood, promote positive feelings and generally makes you feel good! Why do you think so many people turn to chocolate if they're having a bit of a rubbish day?

* And for the same reasons, chocolate is a great 'comfort food'. Dark chocolate in particular helps induce a calming and soothing effect in the body.

* What you really need to know is, no matter of the health benefits, if you love chocolate - then goddamn eat some! You deserve it!

Why Chocolate Shouldn't Be Your Guilty Pleasure

The health benefits
Although dark chocolate is more beneficial than other types of chocolates (due to the high cocoa content, and less sugar!) Don't let that put you off scoffing a bar now and then when you fancy it.

Chocolate can improve memory, reduce fatigue, increase organisational skills, reduce PMS and ease cramps, reduce anxiety, improve mental maths skills, increase blood flow, increase heart and brain function and so much more! Chocolate is amazing!

Chocolate should not be your guilty pleasure, there's nothing to feel guilty about! If chocolate is your happy food, then grab a bar and brighten your day.

Do you love chocolate as much as me?

How to Overcome Mum Guilt and Thrive as a Parent
Mum guilt is a common feeling among many mothers, and it can be overwhelming at times. It is that feeling of inadequacy or anxiety that mothers experience when they feel they are not doing enough for their children. This feeling can be triggered by different things, such as taking time for oneself, pursuing a career, or simply not being able to meet one's own expectations. In this article, we will explore ways of overcoming mum guilt and dealing with it in a healthy way, while also addressing how it relates to anxiety.

The first step in overcoming mum guilt is acknowledging it. Many mothers feel guilty for feeling guilty, as if it is a sign of weakness or a reflection of their parenting abilities. However, it is important to remember that it is a natural feeling and that almost every mother experiences it at some point. Once you acknowledge your feelings of mum guilt, you can start to take action to address them. One way to deal with mum guilt is to set realistic expectations for yourself. It is common for mothers to set high standards for themselves and feel guilty when they cannot meet them. However, it is important to remember that perfection is not attainable, and it is okay to make mistakes. Instead of striving for perfection, focus on progress and celebrate your achievements along the way.

How to Overcome Mum Guilt and Thrive as a Parent

Another way to overcome mum guilt is to practice self-care. Many mothers feel guilty for taking time for themselves, but self-care is crucial for mental and emotional well-being. Taking a break, engaging in a hobby, or simply taking a nap can help you recharge and feel more present and engaged with your family. Remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish, but rather an important part of being a good parent.

Mum guilt can also be increased by social media and comparisons to other mothers. It is easy to fall into the trap of comparing oneself to others, but it is important to remember that everyone's parenting journey is different. What works for one mother may not work for another, and it is important to focus on your own unique strengths and abilities as a parent.

How to Overcome Mum Guilt and Thrive as a Parent

When it comes to mum guilt and anxiety, it is important to address any underlying mental health issues. Anxiety can intensify feelings of guilt and make it difficult to manage. If you are struggling with anxiety, it is important to seek help from a mental health professional.

Another way to deal with mum guilt and anxiety is to practice mindfulness and self-compassion. Mindfulness involves being present in the moment and non-judgmentally accepting one's thoughts and feelings. Self-compassion involves treating oneself with kindness and understanding, rather than self-criticism. By practicing mindfulness and self-compassion, you can reduce anxiety and create a more positive and accepting mindset.

How to Overcome Mum Guilt and Thrive as a Parent

Mum guilt is a common feeling among mothers, but it is possible to overcome it. By acknowledging your feelings, setting realistic expectations, practicing self-care, avoiding comparisons, addressing underlying mental health issues, and practicing mindfulness and self-compassion, you can reduce feelings of guilt and anxiety and enjoy a more fulfilling parenting journey.

Remember, it is okay to ask for help and to take time for yourself.
You are doing the best you can, and that is enough.

14 Ways To Embrace Hygge This Spring
Embracing hygge in the spring has many benefits, from appreciating the little things to spending time with loved ones and creating a cosy sanctuary to relax in. It's not just for the colder months, as there are plenty of spring hygge essentials that can help you achieve a healthy, happy life. Here are 14 ways to embrace hygge this spring and experience the benefits of hygge:

Plant Seeds
Getting out in the garden is such a lovely feeling. Planting seeds outside not only helps to get that essential Vitamin D, but it helps bring new life to your garden and watching something grow from a seed is so satisfying.

Get Outside Whatever The Weather
Speaking of going out in the garden, getting outside in general is so good for you and makes you feel happy. So whether the sun is shining and you can relax in the garden, or the rain is pouring, grab some waterproofs and wellies and go out and enjoy it. I promise you'll feel good!

14 Ways To Embrace Hygge This Spring

Let The Light In
Open your curtains and let that gorgeous sunlight in, even if it's not a particularly sunny day, it'll make you feel better letting the light in. If it's a warmer day, open some windows too to let that wonderful Spring air into your home.

Brighten Your Home With Flowers
Having fresh flowers in your home can do wonders for your mood, not to mention how beautiful they look! They can brighten up any mood and always help you feel in more of Spring mood! Treat yourself and buy a bunch, or even pick some of your own from the garden.

Read A Good Book
If you've been putting off or not being able to find the time to pick up that book you've been meaning to read - now is the time. If the weathers dull, make yourself a cuppa and snuggle down with the book or if the sun is shining (who knows, it's England!) grab a blanket and a few cushions and head outside to read a few chapters!

14 Ways To Embrace Hygge This Spring

Enjoy A Picnic Or BBQ
The perfect way to spend some quality time with loved ones during Spring, and enjoy good food at the same time. Why not host a bbq for your family and friends, or even head to the local park with a delicious picnic?

Practice Self Care
Self care is important all year round, but during the warmer seasons taking care of your skin is essential. Why not pamper your feet ready for sandal season, or apply a moisturizing face mask? Self care isn't just about pampering though, it's about taking time out just for you. Perhaps that's filling in your bullet journal, meeting with friends or even just taking a nap in the sunshine!

Visit A Market
Outdoor market are really happy places to be! They're always so full of life, bright colours, delicious smells and lots of wonderful things to buy. You could try a farmers market, fruit and veg market, clothing market, whatever you fancy!

Spring Clean
It might not seem like the most fun way to spend Spring, but it's so satisfying and uplifting to your mood when your home feels all fresh, clutter free and clean!

14 Ways To Embrace Hygge This Spring

Go On A Bike Ride
I used to go on bike rides all the time before children. Just getting outside in the fresh air, not specific place to go, just enjoying the ride! It's such a wonderful feeling. You could go alone with nothing but the wind in your hair, with your partner as a romantic date or even make it a family event!

Bake Something Delicious
Why not try some delicious new recipes using in season ingredients? You could even invite a few friends over for dinner, or cook along with them! It's a great way to try new things, use seasonal ingredients and spend time with loved ones!

Light Candles
Candles are a Hygge essential, and they are not just for cosy Autumn nights. Candles can be used all year round, and they really help create a lovely atmosphere - plus they can make your home smell amazing too.

Leave The Lights Off
The days are getting longer, there's much more daylight than during the colder months. Which means you hopefully don't need to use the main lighting in your home too often. We only have the one upstairs light on for an hour or so at night during Spring! Why not light a few more candles, and dim the lighting to create a calm, cosy atmosphere in your home. (Of course, be sensible though! If you have children running around, blow out the candles and turn on the lights!)

Exercise Outdoors
If the warmer weather is making you too uncomfortably hot to want to exercise, never fear - go outside! Whether it's doing your normal workout on the lawn instead of in the living room, going for a long walk with your little ones or going for an early evening run, get outside! Get some exercise and Vitamin D at the same time - you're sure to feel amazing for it!

Do you embrace Hygge in your life?

Budget Friendly Self Care Ideas

Self-care is an essential aspect of every individual's life. It is about taking the time to invest in oneself and ensuring that one's well-being is a top priority. Nonetheless, the idea of self-care often seems to require spending a lot of money on massages, spa treatments, or a fancy dinner night out. However, practicing self-care does not need to be expensive. There are simple and budget-friendly ways to practice self-care that can improve your mental and emotional well-being. I would like to share with you some of my favourite budget-friendly ways to practice self-care.

Take a walk in nature
Going for a walk in nature can be a great way to connect with the environment and release stress. Walking outside and being surrounded by trees, plants, and fresh air can be invigorating and help one to feel more grounded. Take a stroll in a local park or explore some hiking trails near you. Walking outside in nature can not only improve one's well-being but also help them to develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Meditate
One of the most effective ways to practice self-care is through meditation. Meditation is a practice for calming the mind and bringing peace to the present moment. It can be a powerful technique to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. There are several guided meditation apps, such as Headspace or Calm, that you can use to help you practice meditation every day.

Budget Friendly Self Care Ideas

Take a bubble bath
Taking a relaxing bubble bath is a great way to unwind after a long day. Not only does it help you to relax, but it also provides a little bit of tranquility and peace. Add some soothing music, light candles, and indulge in your bubble bath with minimal distractions.

Enjoy a DIY Spa Day
Instead of splurging on a spa day, create your own DIY spa day at home. Use a facial mask, create your own sugar scrub, and give yourself a soothing pedicure. It is a great way to pamper yourself and give yourself some much-needed self-care.

Journaling
Journaling is an excellent tool for practicing self-care. It is a way to express yourself, reflect on the day, and track your personal growth. Journaling is also an excellent way to set intentions for the day, acknowledge your thoughts and feelings, and gain better insight into your life.

Budget Friendly Self Care Ideas

Practice Yoga
Yoga is a great way to practice mindfulness, flexibility, and strength. You can access free yoga classes online and practice at home. Yoga can be a great way to centre your mind, relax your body, and alleviate stress.

Create Art
Creating art can be a great way to express yourself and practice self-care. Whether you draw, paint, or do crafts, anything that allows you to unleash your creativity can be relaxing and therapeutic. Art can be a way to connect with your inner self and give you a sense of accomplishment.

Practicing self-care does not have to be lavish or expensive. Self-care is all about taking the time to prioritize yourself, so start by incorporating these affordable and effective ways to help you maintain your emotional and mental well-being.

It is always a joy to find creative ways to indulge in the practice of self-care without having to break the bank.

How to show yourself some love this Valentines Day - Self care
Valentines Day isn't just about romantic love, it's about the love of a friend, the love of a family member, the love of a child and their mother, self love - love is all around

Self Care and Self Love are so important, we all know it but sometimes it can be hard to put the effort in and take time out just for yourself. Unfortunately when you don't make the time for you, burnout, stress and exhaustion are often a result.

There's no better time to show yourself some love, make some effort to care for yourself than Valentines Day. It's a great excuse to indulge in a little self care, to slow down and enjoy your own company. Do things you enjoy - you deserve it!

So I'm sharing a few ways you can show yourself some love this Valentines Day!

self care ideas for valentines day

Take the day slowly

Not every day needs to be constant, on the go from the second you open your eyes - particularly if you aren't exactly eased awake by a blaring alarm clock either! Wake up slowly, stretch your body, try some light morning yoga and make your favourite morning drink. You don't always have to rush, take it slow, embrace the easier mornings and appreciate all that you have.

Journaling

Valentines Day is a fab time to fill in your journal, or even just write a little note to yourself. If you don't fancy that just take a few minutes and have a think about just how incredible you are.

- what is your favourite thing about yourself?
- what is your favourite part of your body?
- what do you enjoy doing on your own?
- what is your biggest dream?
- what is your favourite meal/snack you could whip up, right now?
- what gives you energy?
- what do other people love about you?
- what amazing things have you accomplished in your life so far?

Eat something delicious

Your favourite meal, an amazingly delicious snack, your go-to takeaway or even your favourite chocolate bar. Treat and indulge yourself.

Put the effort in

Unless you fancy prancing around in your pyjamas all day (totally acceptable too btw!), why not put a little effort in and make yourself look and feel good. Try a new makeup look, wear that gorgeous dress you put away for a "special occasion", give that hair curler another whirl. Whatever you fancy, just have fun with!

Laugh

Laughter is the best thing ever. Laughter decreases stress, increases oxygen intake, releases endorphins and generally just makes you feel amazing! "Laughter is the best medicine" is actually true because it offers you amazing health and wellbeing benefits!
So watch a funny movie, spend time with others who get your sense of humour and make you laugh till your stomach aches.

If you only do one of these ideas today, make it this one.

Have a soak

There's nothing better than a good bath to relax your body and soothe your muscles. Have a proper fancy, all out pampering bath if you fancy it. Use your best products that you put away for a special day - every day is a special day! Treat yourself! Fill the tub with bubbles, bring a drink and a snack - a book too maybe? Whatever you like, but I want you to really make this bath a good one!

self care ideas for valentines day

Do something you enjoy

Make an effort to do something you enjoy today. Everyone enjoys something! Do you have any particular hobbies? Painting? Knitting? Running? Writing? Cleaning? Gardening? Gaming? There's a million different things you could do, and if you aren't sure what you enjoy - why not give a few activities a go and see what takes your fancy, you might discover a whole new hobby you love!

Feel love

What makes you feel loved? Does your partner? Your friends? Your parents? Your children? Everyone wants to feel love from another person - so make an effort today to spend time with those who make you feel like you are the most important person to them. Make sure you show them just how important and loved they are too!

I hope you have an amazing Valentines Day, make sure you fill up your cup!

Homemade Rose Face Mask For Normal and Combination Skin

Homemade Face Mask For Normal/Combination Skin

When it comes to skincare and pampering, a good facemask is essential! Although it probably seems a lot less hassle to pop to the shop and purchase the first facemask you see - it's so much better for your skin, and your wallet to make your own!

Making your own facemask doesn't have to be complicated, and it definitely wont be pricey! You'll be able to ensure all the ingredients are natural and you'll know every ingredient in it unlike store bought products.  Natural products can do absolute wonders for your skin, while detoxing and moisturising your skin, removing impurities and unclogging pores. What's not to love about that?

I've already shared my absolute favourite facemask for dry and sensitive (and sunburnt!) skin, but today I'm sharing my go-to homemade mask for normal or combination skin.

Homemade Rose Face Mask For Normal and Combination Skin

Natural Ingredients

Roses
Did you know that roses have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties? Roses have been used in skin care for years and they can help reduce redness and moisturise your skin too.

Rose can calm and soothe your skin, as well as reduce redness - so it's a fantastic product for acne prone, or oily skin. It helps to clean away impurities and dirt, while locking the moisture into your skin to keep your skin soft and supple.

Roses are also full of vitamins, to protect and hydrate your skin and due to the gorgeous scent of rose, it can even help you relax and brighten your mood too! They are really amazing plants.

Honey
Honey has a wonderful array of beneficial properties for your skin (it's a regular ingredient I use for homemade skincare products!). Honey is antibacterial, and anti-septic so it will really clean out your pores, remove dirt and bacteria and it can even treat acne. It's also moisturising and soothing - ideal for sore or dry skin. Plus Honey is full of antioxidants, so it'll help boost collagen production, nourish damaged skin and even fade scars!

Natural Yogurt
Natural yogurt has a huge range of skin care benefits too, many are similar to honey and rose but yogurt is best at soothing and cooling your skin. It'll help revitalise and hydrate your skin if it's feeling dry or sore. It's really just a huge moisturise boost for your skin - plus it can help fade blemishes and fine lines too. PLUS, it's antibacterial and anti fungal too.

See, with all these fantastic ingredients, do you really want to go back to store bought facemasks?

How To Make Homemade Face Mask

This Rose face mask is really quick to put together. With just 4 ingredients, it'll only take about 10 minutes max. Plus, if you make a bigger batch, it can be popped into the fridge for up to a week!

You Will Need:
* 2 Tbs Natural Yogurt
* 2 Tbs Rosewater
* 3 Tbs Manuka or Raw Honey
* A handful of rose petals

The cheapest, most basic natural yogurt will work for this face mask! (Just ensure it's flavour free, it'll usually be about 50p) You can easily purchase natural rose water, or you could make your own even easier, pick a few rose petals from the garden and you're nearly there!

Lastly, you'll want to use Manuka or raw honey, as the basic, cheapest store bought honey's are usually overflowing with sugar - look for something a little more natural. HUGE bonus if you can purchase a jar of local honey.

1. First things first, you'll want to wash the rose petals with cold water. Allow them to soak for a few minutes to wash off any bugs or dirt. While the rose petals are soaking, you can mix up the rosewater, honey and yogurt in a bowl.

2. Once the rose petals have finished soaking, you can crush or rip them up and add them to the mixture.

3. Either using a pestle and mortar, or by popping it in the blender - combine all the ingredients well together. Using a blender does create a smoother face mask and therefore, easier to apply - but it's really up to you.

4. Using clean fingers, apply the mixture in gentle circular motion to your face, décolletage and neck. Be sure to avoid your eyes, nostrils and mouth.

5. Leave the mask to dry on your skin for about 15-20 minutes. You should feel the mask soaking into your skin, hydrating and tightening it almost immediately.

6. Rinse off the face mask using cool or warm water. I generally like to wash masks off with my hands and finish it off with a light scrub using a soft wash cloth.

7. Pat your skin dry and apply your normal moisturiser - and enjoy your radiant skin!

Have you ever made a DIY face mask before?

I'd love to hear if you give this one a go!
